The 4^th municipality directly under the Central Government is situated in the south-east part of the Sichuan Basin and the junction of Yangtze and Jialing River. The city of this important industrial base in southwest has been named:”the City of Mountains”, “the City of Fog” for its mountainous terrain and heavy fog. Chungking, once the wartime capital (home of the Flying Tigers and General Stilwell), is one of China’s cultural cities with a long history. Its scenic spots are as follows: the night scene of the city, People’s Auditorium, the Zhou Residence and Chaotian Gate ("the gate facing the sky"). Not far is Dazu Buddhist grotto and the first water works of Li Bing and the Dujiangyan weir. Chongqing is one of the starting points or terminal port of the Three Gorges cruise. The traffic there is very convenient. Its beauties are renowned all over China, as are its hotpot dinner and shooting spout teakettle handlers.
