Zhangfi Temple stands in the Fly Phoenix Mountain

Qutang Gorge
Qutang Gorge is famous for its grandeur among the
Three Gorges. It starts in the west at Fengjie Baidi
City and goes to Wu Mountain Dai Stream at the eastern
end. The surging water rolls through the river where
it is 100 metres wide. On the south bank of Qutang
Gorge, there are beautiful sights such as Qutang
Stele Wall, Mengliang Ladder, Phoenix Spring, and
Rhinoceros-Sees-Moon Peak. On the north bank, there
are the Seven Doors, Bellows Gorge and Qutang Old

Baidi City in Fengjie
The city is located 4km east of Fengjie at the western
entrance to the Qutang Gorge, by the junction of
the Chaotang and Yangtze Rivers. In ancient times,
revered poets such as Libai, Dufu, Liuyuxi and Fangchengdu
visited and wrote famous poems during their sojourns
here, making Baidi City the ¡°Poem City.¡± There are
also many historic sites including Wuhou Ancestral
Temple, Observing Star Pavilion and Mengliang Ladder.
The legends of ¡°Firing the 700 li long joint battalions¡±
and ¡°Liubei entrusting a son to Kongming,¡± add fame

Small
Three Gorge in Mt. Wushan Daning River
Daning River, once called Wushui, originates from
Mt. Daba, at the junction of Sichuan, Hubei and
Shanxi Provinces. It flows into the Yangtze River
through the western end of Wu Gorge. The meandering
path of the Daning River and its soaring peaks form
a unique landscape. The small Three Gorges are made
up of Longmen Gorge, Bawu Gorge and Dicui Gorge.
Although not the main three Gorges of the Yangtze,
the beauty of the Small Three Gorges is thought

Shenglong Stream

long, and is made up of Parrot Gorge and Dragon Boat Gorge.
The sights on the river bank are unique; the gorge is

Hometown of Zhaojun in Xiangxi
Zhaojun village lies in the southern suburb of Xiangxi
County in Hubei Province. It is said that Princess
Wang Zhaojun of the Han Dynasty was born in Zhaojun.
There are many well-preserved historical sites relating
to the princess here, including Watching River Attic,
Dressing Table, and Zhaojun Table. It is well worth

Dongting
Lake and Yueyang Tower
Yueyang Tower on the shores of Donting Lake is the ideal
spot from which to appreciate the scenic beauty of Dongting
Lake. Yueyang Tower is well-known as one of the most important
sites of interest in Hunan Province.
Legend has it that Yueyang Tower was the inspection tower
where Lusu trained the navy of the Wu Kingdom. Many famous
Tang Dynasty poets such as Li Bai, Bai Juyi, Dufu, Manghaoran

Wu Han-the largest city in central China and capital
of Hubei province, is located at the confluence

Huang Shan
Located in the south of Anhui Province, Huangshan is known
the world over for its scenic beauty, which includes 72
major peaks. It is famed for its four splendors: pine

scenery and have left poetry in praise of it, including
"You don't want to visit any other mountains after

Temple for Quyuan in Zigui
Zigui, ancient birthplace of the Chu Kingdom, was home
to the Chu poet Quyuan. An honest and loyal man, Quyuan
was suspected by the emperor and slandered by others.
Still, as he cared deeply about the people, he is a revered
figure to this day. Legend says that the Dragon Boat Festival
was originated in his honor. Dragon Boat Festivals, where
colorful dragon boats compete with each other on the river
are very popular tourist attractions. The Quyuan Memorial
Temple was first built in 15 BC Tang Period and has been
rebuilt several times in succeeding dynasties. |
Mt.
Lushan in Jiujiang
It is in the North of Jiangxi Province with 302
square kilometers surface Area.There're many scenic
spots in the Mt. Lushan including the Lesser Celestial
Pond, the River -view Pavilion, Flower Path, the
Valley of Splendor, the Immortals Cave, Dragon's
Head Precipice, Steel Boat Peak, Yellow Dragon Pond,

Ancient
Chibi in Puqi
Ancient Chibi is situated by Mt. Chibi on the southern
bank of the Yangtze, 36 km from PuQ ing County in Hubei
Province. Here are the remains of an ancient battlefield
where the allied forces of Wu and Chu defeated the Cao
army in the Three Kingdoms era. The story of the Chibi
War is well known even by children today. Places of interest
include the Yi River Pavilion, the River View Pavilion,
the Wind -praying Terrace and Mountain Golden Imperial
.The new - built Chibi war museum has an unique style,
where there are sculptures of Zhouyu.There is a popular
saying from a folk song in Chibi 'The book reviewers never

Xiling Gorge
Starting from Xiangxi in the west to Nanjinguan in the
east, Xiling Gorge is famed for its winding course, strange
rocks, many shoals and whirlpools which have made for
treacherous sailing throughout history on this section
of the Yangtze. Within Xiling Gorge, attractions are Binshubaojian
Gorge, Niuganmafei Gorge and Dengying Gorge. |
Sanyou
Cave
Located in Xiling Gorge, the Three Visiting Cave has breathtaking
scenery. Three Tang Dynasty poets, Baijuyi, his brother
BaiXinjian and Yuansi, visited this cave and composed
poetry while drinking there. Sanyou Cave received its
name when Baijuyi composed the poem Three Visiting Cave,
which he wrote on the wall. Later, three Song Dynasty
poets, Suxun, Sushi and Suzhe also visited and composed
poems on the cave walls. Facing a valley with steep precipices,
the cave is over 6 metres high, 30 metres deep and 20
metres wide. There are numerous small holes between the
walls of the cave so it is also known as ¡°Celestial Cave¡±
or ¡°Dreamland¡±. |
Yichang
Called Yiling in ancient times, Yichang is an old, yet
developing city. It is the largest hydroelectric building
base in China as well as the economic and cultural center
of western Hubei and eastern Sichuan provinces. A number
of tourist attractions include the Three Visiting Cave,
hometown of Quyuan and Zhaojun and the Gezhou Dam. In
addition, the miniature trees and painted pottery of Yichang
are enchanting. |
Jingzhou
Located on the northern bank of the Yangtze River
within the area of Jiangling Jingzhou City, Hubei
Province, Jingzhou is an historical cultural city
and a well-known tourist attraction. There is a
poetic saying that ¡°If you want to know something
about the Three Kingdoms Era, you should go to Jingzhou.
Referring to Jingzhou, people may recall two stories
about the Three Kingdoms Era ¨C ¡°Liubei borrowed
Jingzhou¡± and ¡°Guanyu lost Jingzhou due to carelessness.¡±
Strategically located between Hangai in the north
and the Southern Sea to the west.Jingzhou was a
site often contested in ancient battles, as well
as a favored gathering place for literary scholars

The
Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project
The Yangtze River Three Gorges conservancy project is
situated in Sanmenping within the area of Xiling Gorge.
The main building is made up of three parts: the dam,
the hydroelectric station workshop and the building of
river navigation. The Three Gorges project is running
according to well-made plans; once completed, beneficial
results will be flood control, generation of electricity,
better river navigation and touring possibilities, and
cleaner air. |

Three Gorges Project
The Three gorges Dam, the largest water conservancy project
ever undertaken in the world, is now being built at Sandouping
in the middle of Xiling Gorge, the longest of the famous
Three Gorges.
The three Gorges Dam will be 2335 metres long, 185 metres
high, and 18 metres wide on top and 130 metres wide at
the bottom. The dam will raise the river to a level of
175 metres above seal level, creating a 600-kilometer
long reservoir with a storage capacity of 39.9 billion
cubic metres. Extending from the dam - site all the way
to Chongqing 570. 000 acres of farmland and towns and
villages in 19 counties and cities will be flooded causing
1.3 million people to be relocated.
The construction of the project will cost 230 billion
Chinese Yuan, an equivalent of 28 billion US dollars.
The purposes for building this huge dam are flood control,
electricity, Navigating and irrigation.
The construction of the dam formally began in 1994 . According
to the plan, the body or the dam will be completed in
2003 and the fist generator will begin to produce power
.The whole construction will be completed in 2009. |
Nanjing
Nanjing, called Jinlin in ancient times, is now
the capital of Jiangsu Province. It is an historical
city as well as a tourist attraction. Several dynasties
established capitals in Nanjing; thus it is known
as ¡°The capital of ten dynasties.¡± Industry in Nanjing
includes machine-building, electronics, petroleum,
